Formal wedding photography
Formals, or formal wedding photography is really an expression to describe the traditional photographs that a wedding photographer takes. These formal photographs are usually posed, and generally include the family and group photographs, bridal portraits, through to the cutting of the cake and the throwing of confetti etc. They are often the photographs that are included in both the main and parents wedding albums
Although the modern style is more relaxed and informal than the traditional style, I still advocate that brides ought to consider some formal type of wedding photography. It tends to be the formal photographs that last the test of time, and are the ones that brides and grooms, parents and relatives leave on show in their homes
Formal wedding photography originates before the advent of the camera itself. Back when artists were commissioned to paint a portrait of the happy couple. With the advent of the camera, some of those artists crossed over into photography, and set up the original wedding photography in a studio, with classic painted backdrops and classical poses. Formal wedding photography has remained with us since then, and captures the essence of the day – the bringing together of families, behind the bride and groom
